Emperor Huizong of Song

Emperor Huizong of Song was the eighth emperor of the Song dynasty, ruling from 1100 to 1126. A gifted painter and calligrapher, he expanded imperial patronage of the arts before losing power during the Jin invasion.

Emperor Qinzong of Song: The ninth Song emperor, who ruled from 1126 to 1127 after succeeding his father, Huizong. Huizong abdicated to Qinzong as the Jin invasion threatened the Northern Song capital.

Auspicious Cranes: A painting attributed to Huizong showing cranes circling above the palace after an auspicious sighting. The image turns a reported omen over Huizong’s palace into imperial visual propaganda.
