Emperor Suzong of Tang

Emperor Suzong of Tang ruled from 756 to 762, taking the throne during the An Lushan Rebellion and leading the Tang court’s efforts to recover its capital and authority.

An Lushan Rebellion: A major rebellion against the Tang dynasty, begun in 755 by the generals An Lushan and Shi Siming. The rebellion forced Suzong’s accession and defined his reign.
Guo Ziyi: A Tang general who helped recover the capital Chang’an from rebel forces. His armies were central to the court’s campaigns against the rebels.
Emperor Daizong of Tang: A Tang emperor who ruled from 762 to 779 and succeeded his father Suzong. Daizong inherited the unfinished rebellion and its weakened imperial authority.
Empress Zhang (Tang dynasty): Suzong’s empress, who became influential at court during his final years. Her struggle with eunuch Li Fuguo intensified the succession turmoil surrounding Suzong’s death.

Uyghur Khaganate: A Turkic empire in Inner Asia that was a major power during the eighth century. Suzong obtained Uyghur military aid to recapture Chang’an and Luoyang.
