Emperor Yingzong of Ming

Zhu Qizhen was the sixth and eighth emperor of the Ming dynasty, ruling as the Zhengtong Emperor from 1435 to 1449 and the Tianshun Emperor from 1457 to 1464.

Tumu Crisis: A 1449 military disaster in which Oirat forces captured the Zhengtong Emperor and routed the Ming army. His capture during this defeat ended his first reign and destabilized the court.
Ming dynasty succession: The rules and political practices by which members of the Ming imperial house inherited the throne. Succession disputes shaped the transfer of power from Yingzong to Jingtai and back.

Emperor Jingtai of Ming: Zhu Qiyu, the Ming emperor who ruled from 1449 to 1457 after his elder brother was captured. He took the throne while Yingzong remained captive, then was displaced when Yingzong returned.
Ming dynasty eunuchs: Court officials serving the Ming emperor, many of whom held influence through palace access and administrative roles. Eunuch networks at court affected the political environment of his first reign.
