English billiards

English billiards is a cue sport played by two players on a pocketed table with a white cue ball each and one red object ball. Players score by potting balls and making caroms.

Cannon (billiards): A scoring shot in which the cue ball contacts both object balls during one stroke. A cannon scores by caroming off both balls, one of the game's three scoring methods.
Cue sport: A family of games played with a cue to strike balls on a table. English billiards belongs to cue sports alongside pool, snooker, and carom billiards.
Billiards in the 19th century: The development and popularization of billiard games during the nineteenth century. English billiards took shape as table design, equipment, and organized play changed.

Snooker: A cue sport played with 21 object balls and a cue ball on a pocketed table. Both use large pocketed tables, but snooker has many balls and a different scoring sequence.
