Environmental philosophy examines how humans relate to the natural world, including questions about moral duties, nature’s value, and the meaning of environment.

Environmental ethics: The study of moral duties and values concerning the natural environment. This branch develops environmental philosophy’s central questions about right conduct toward nature.
Consequentialism: The family of moral theories that evaluates actions by their outcomes. Environmental policy often weighs ecological and human consequences through this framework.
Aldo Leopold: An American ecologist and conservationist who proposed the land ethic. His ecological account of moral community became a foundation for environmental ethics.
Climate ethics: The study of moral responsibilities and justice in responding to climate change. It applies environmental philosophy to emissions, adaptation, and duties across generations.
Biocentrism: The view that living beings have inherent moral standing, not only value as human resources. It broadens moral concern beyond humanity while focusing on individual organisms.
