Epic simile

An extended poetic comparison that develops beyond the immediate point of resemblance, often unfolding across several lines with vivid detail.

Simile: A figure of speech that compares unlike things explicitly, usually with “like” or “as.” Epic similes expand this basic form into sustained descriptive passages.
Analogy: A comparison that explains or clarifies one relationship through another. An epic simile turns resemblance into an extended way of interpreting a scene.
Homer: An ancient Greek poet traditionally credited with the Iliad and the Odyssey. His epics established the form’s most influential early examples.
