Ethiopian monarchy

Ethiopian monarchy was the institution of hereditary kingship in Ethiopia, culminating in an empire ruled by the Solomonic dynasty until its abolition in 1974.

Kingdom of Aksum: An ancient kingdom centered in what is now northern Ethiopia and Eritrea, prominent from the first to seventh centuries CE. Aksumite kingship supplied an early precedent for Christian royal authority in Ethiopia.
Ethiopian imperial title: The titles used by Ethiopia’s monarchs, including nəgusä nägäst, conventionally translated as “king of kings.” The imperial title expressed a ruler’s claim to authority over other kings and territories.
