Eugène Viollet-le-Duc

Eugène Viollet-le-Duc (1814–1879) was a French architect, restorer, and theorist whose interventions reshaped major medieval monuments. He argued that restoration could complete a building according to its underlying design, even when that required changes beyond surviving evidence.
