Eurasian Plate

The Eurasian Plate is a major tectonic plate carrying most of Europe and Asia, plus adjacent parts of the Atlantic and Arctic ocean floors.

Indian Plate: A tectonic plate carrying the Indian subcontinent and adjoining parts of the Indian Ocean floor. Its collision with Eurasia built the Himalaya and continues to deform southern Asia.
Plate tectonics: The theory that Earth's lithosphere is divided into moving plates whose interactions shape its surface. It explains the motions and boundary interactions involving the Eurasian Plate.
Himalayas: A mountain range in South Asia formed mainly by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. They are the clearest large-scale expression of collision along the plate's southern margin.
Himalayan orogeny: The ongoing mountain-building process driven by collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates. It is the principal tectonic consequence of convergence along the plate's southern boundary.
Arabian Plate: A tectonic plate carrying the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent portions of the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Its northward convergence with Eurasia contributes to mountain building and earthquakes in western Asia.
Lithosphere: Earth's rigid outer layer, comprising the crust and the uppermost mantle. The Eurasian Plate is a moving section of this rigid outer shell.
Tibetan Plateau: A high plateau in Central Asia, uplifted largely by the collision of India with Eurasia. Its elevation and deformation record the inland effects of the India–Eurasia collision.
2015 Nepal earthquake: A magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April 2015 along the Himalayan collision zone. It demonstrated the seismic hazard produced by underthrusting beneath the Eurasian margin.
North American Plate: A tectonic plate carrying North America and adjoining ocean floor. The two plates diverge along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which separates their oceanic portions.
Continental crust: The relatively thick, low-density crust underlying Earth's continents. Most of the plate's land area consists of continental crust.
