Knowra European Defence Community European Defence Community The European Defence Community was a proposed organization to place military forces from six Western European countries under shared institutions. Its founding treaty was signed in 1952 but rejected by France's National Assembly in 1954, so the community was never established.
Korean War : A war from 1950 to 1953 between North Korea and South Korea, fought with extensive international involvement. The war intensified Western fears of Soviet expansion and accelerated plans to rearm West Germany.
Treaty establishing the European Defence Community : A 1952 treaty establishing a proposed European army, common institutions, and rules for member forces. Its provisions set out how the proposed community would have been organized.

North Atlantic Treaty : The 1949 treaty that founded NATO and committed members to collective defence. Unlike the proposed community, it coordinated sovereign allies without creating a unified European army.
