Executioner

An official charged with carrying out a sentence of death, traditionally by methods such as hanging or beheading. Executioners have served judicial authorities in many societies and periods.

Capital punishment: The state-sanctioned killing of a person as punishment for a crime. Executioners were the human agents who carried out this form of punishment.
