Exile

Exile is the forced removal of a person or group from their homeland, or their prolonged absence from it. It can be imposed by authorities or result from coercion and danger.

Banishment: Banishment is the formal expulsion of a person from a place, often by legal or political authority. It is a direct form of exile imposed as punishment or political control.
Napoleon's exile: Napoleon's exile was his enforced removal first to Elba and later to Saint Helena after his defeats. His two exiles illustrate banishment as a tool for containing a deposed ruler.

Dante Alighieri: Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet and political exile who wrote the Divine Comedy. His forced absence from Florence shaped the political and emotional world of his writing.
Nostalgia: Nostalgia is a sentimental longing for a past time or place, often experienced as lost or distant. Longing for home often shapes the emotional experience of exile.
Political asylum: Political asylum is protection granted by a state to someone who has fled persecution or danger elsewhere. It offers refuge to people whose exile began through persecution or threat.
Tibetan diaspora: The Tibetan diaspora comprises Tibetan communities living outside Tibet, including refugees and their descendants. It shows how collective exile can sustain institutions and identity across generations.
