Faraday constant

The Faraday constant is the electric charge carried by one mole of elementary charges. It equals the Avogadro constant multiplied by the elementary charge.

Elementary charge: The magnitude of the electric charge of a proton or electron. The Faraday constant scales this single-particle charge to one mole.
Faraday's laws of electrolysis: Two laws relating the amount of substance transformed at an electrode to the electric charge passed. The constant converts charge into moles of electrons for electrolysis calculations.
Molar charge: Electric charge per mole of specified charged particles or charge equivalents. The Faraday constant is the molar charge associated with one mole of elementary charges.
Gas constant: The molar constant relating energy, temperature, and amount of substance in thermodynamics. It is often paired with the Faraday constant in electrochemical equations but measures energy per mole per temperature.
Avogadro constant: The number of specified elementary entities in one mole, exactly 6.02214076 × 10²³ mol⁻¹. Multiplying this particle count by elementary charge gives the Faraday constant.
Electrolysis: A process that uses electric current to drive a nonspontaneous chemical reaction. Its quantitative calculations use the Faraday constant to link current and material produced.
2019 redefinition of SI base units: The revision that defined SI units by fixing the numerical values of fundamental constants. Fixing the elementary charge and Avogadro constant makes the Faraday constant exact in SI.
Planck constant: The fundamental constant relating a photon's energy to its frequency. It is another fixed SI-defining constant, but links energy and frequency rather than charge and amount.
Mole (unit): The SI unit for amount of substance, defined by a fixed number of specified entities. The constant expresses charge per mole of elementary charges.
Electrochemical equivalent: The mass of a substance deposited or released per unit electric charge during electrolysis. It can be calculated using molar mass, electron count, and the Faraday constant.
