Federal Government of Germany

Germany’s federal executive authority, led by the chancellor and composed of federal ministers. It directs federal administration and is accountable to the Bundestag.

Chancellor of Germany: Germany’s head of government, who determines general policy guidelines and leads the federal cabinet. The chancellor sets the government’s policy direction and leads its ministers.
Bundestag: Germany’s federal parliament, elected by the public and responsible for legislation and oversight. It elects the chancellor, scrutinizes the government, and enacts federal laws.
Parliamentary Council: The assembly that drafted the Basic Law for West Germany in 1948–49. Its constitutional design established the federal executive’s parliamentary foundations.
Federal ministries of Germany: Germany’s central government departments, each responsible for a defined area of federal policy and administration. Ministries turn cabinet decisions into policy and oversee federal responsibilities.

Local government in Germany: Municipal and district authorities responsible for local public administration in Germany. Local authorities perform public tasks at a level below the federal government and Länder.
