Félix González-Torres

Félix González-Torres (1957–1996) was a Cuban-born American conceptual artist whose spare installations used everyday materials to address love, loss, identity, and power. Many works invite visitors to take or alter their components, making participation part of the artwork.

Untitled (Portrait of Ross in L.A.): A 1991 installation of individually wrapped candies whose ideal weight corresponds to Ross Laycock’s body weight. Its replenishable candy pile makes intimacy, illness, and loss physically shareable.
