Female ejaculation

Female ejaculation is the release of fluid from the urethral area during sexual arousal or orgasm in some people with female anatomy. The term is used for fluid releases that may differ in volume and composition.

Skene's glands: Glands beside the urethra that produce secretions and are sometimes called the female prostate. Their secretions are linked to small-volume fluid released during arousal or orgasm.
Squirting: The expulsion of a relatively large volume of fluid through the urethra during sexual activity. It is often used interchangeably with female ejaculation, but research distinguishes the terms by volume and fluid composition.
Female reproductive system: The organs and tissues involved in reproduction in people with female anatomy. Its urinary and genital structures provide the anatomical context for distinguishing fluid sources.
Female ejaculation research: Scientific investigation of fluid release from the urethral area during sexual activity in people with female anatomy. Studies disagree on definitions, sample composition, and whether different fluid releases should be grouped.
Urethra: A tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. Fluid described as female ejaculate exits through the urethral opening.
Vaginal lubrication: Moisture produced mainly by fluid passing through vaginal tissues during sexual arousal. It comes from the vagina rather than being expelled through the urethral opening.
Paraurethral glands: Small glands near the urethra, also known as Skene's glands. They are the anatomical structures most often proposed as a source of ejaculate.
Sexual health survey: A study that collects self-reported information about sexual experiences, behavior, or health. Estimates of how often the phenomenon occurs depend heavily on survey wording and sampling.
Prostate-specific antigen: A protein produced by prostate tissue and detectable in some bodily fluids. Its detection in some ejaculate samples supports a contribution from Skene's glands.
Orgasm: A peak of sexual pleasure commonly accompanied by rhythmic muscular contractions. Fluid release can occur with orgasm, but neither experience requires the other.
