Feng Yuxiang

Feng Yuxiang (1882–1948) was a Chinese military commander and political leader who seized Beijing in 1924 and later allied with the Nationalists.

Chiang Kai-shek: A Chinese Nationalist military and political leader who led the Republic of China from 1928. Feng joined Chiang’s Northern Expedition, then opposed his government in the Central Plains War.
Beijing Coup: The 1924 seizure of Beijing by Feng Yuxiang’s forces, which ended Zhang Zuolin’s control of the capital. This coup is the defining event behind Feng’s reputation as a national power broker.
Warlord Era: The period of fragmented military rule in China, conventionally dated from 1916 to 1928. Feng’s power rested on the regional armies and shifting alliances characteristic of this period.

Yan Xishan: A Chinese military and political leader who governed Shanxi for much of the Republican era. Yan allied with Feng and other commanders against Chiang in the 1930 Central Plains War.
Northern Expedition: The Nationalist military campaign of 1926–1928 to defeat regional warlords and unify China. Feng later joined this campaign, bringing his forces into the Nationalist advance.
