Galaxy group : A small association of galaxies bound together by gravity, typically containing fewer members than a galaxy cluster. Groups provide a nearby environment between relative isolation and the crowded conditions of clusters.
Galaxy harassment : Repeated high-speed gravitational encounters that perturb galaxies, especially in dense environments. Such encounters are less frequent in the field, leaving galaxies less dynamically disturbed.
Galaxy morphology : The classification of galaxies by their visible structures, such as spiral arms, bars, and spheroids. Comparing field and cluster morphologies tests how environment changes galaxy structure.

Cosmic web : The universe's large-scale network of filaments, sheets, and voids formed by the distribution of matter. Field galaxies occupy the lower-density parts of this network, away from its richest nodes.
Galaxy interaction : A gravitational encounter between galaxies that can distort their shapes and alter their gas and star formation. Field galaxies can still evolve through encounters, particularly in pairs and small groups.
