FIFA is the international governing body for association football, founded in Paris in 1904. It organizes the men’s and women’s World Cups and oversees the sport’s global rules and competitions.

FIFA Council: FIFA’s strategic and oversight body, responsible for setting the organization’s direction between Congress meetings. It sets FIFA’s strategic direction and makes major decisions between member-association congresses.
Robert Guérin: A French journalist and football administrator who became FIFA’s first president. He convened the founding meeting and led FIFA during its first years.
Gianni Infantino: A Swiss-Italian football administrator who became FIFA president in 2016. His presidency has overseen an expanded World Cup and major institutional changes.

Sepp Blatter: A Swiss football administrator who served as FIFA president from 1998 to 2015. His long tenure became closely associated with FIFA’s governance crisis.
FIFA Forward Programme: FIFA’s development funding program for football associations and confederations. It channels FIFA revenue into football infrastructure and development worldwide.
International Olympic Committee: The nongovernmental organization that leads the Olympic Movement and oversees the Olympic Games. It governs a multisport movement, while FIFA governs one sport worldwide.
