Film noir

Film noir is a crime-film style marked by moral ambiguity, urban settings, fatalism, and shadowy cinematography. It is especially associated with American films of the 1940s and 1950s.

Low-key lighting: Lighting that uses strong contrasts between illuminated areas and deep shadow. Its stark contrasts give noir scenes their characteristic darkness and visual tension.
