Financial regulation comprises laws, rules, and supervisory practices governing financial institutions, markets, and transactions to promote stability, fairness, and consumer protection.

Prudential regulation: Rules and supervision designed to keep financial firms resilient and limit risks to the financial system. Capital, liquidity, and risk controls are central tools for preventing institutional failures.
