Finnish national identity

Finnish national identity is the shared historical and cultural ideas through which people understand Finland and Finnish belonging. It has been shaped by language, political independence, regional diversity, and relations with neighboring powers.

Fennoman movement: A nineteenth-century movement that promoted Finnish language and culture as foundations of national life. Its language campaign helped make Finnish cultural identity a political project.
