Finvenkismo

Finvenkismo is the belief that Esperanto should become the universal second language, together with advocacy for achieving that goal.

L. L. Zamenhof: L. L. Zamenhof was the Polish-Jewish ophthalmologist who created Esperanto and promoted international communication. His language and early ideals supplied the foundation for later universal-language advocacy.
Universal language: A universal language is a language intended for communication across linguistic communities worldwide. Finvenkismo is one organized proposal for how such a language might be adopted.
English as a lingua franca: English as a lingua franca is the use of English for communication among people with different first languages. It is the dominant practical alternative to finvenkismo’s proposed shared second language.
Language policy: Language policy comprises decisions and practices governing languages in public institutions and society. Universal second-language status would require policies across education and public institutions.
Esperanto: Esperanto is a constructed international auxiliary language published by L. L. Zamenhof in 1887. Finvenkismo is a movement within the wider Esperanto community.
Esperanto movement: The Esperanto movement consists of people and organizations that promote Esperanto and its use. Finvenkismo operates through this broader community’s organizing and communication.
Interlingua: Interlingua is a constructed auxiliary language designed to be readily understood by speakers of Romance languages. It offers a rival constructed-language approach to international communication.
Language education: Language education is the teaching and learning of languages in formal or informal settings. Teaching Esperanto at scale is a central practical route toward the movement’s stated goal.
Declaration of Boulogne: The Declaration of Boulogne is the 1905 statement defining Esperanto’s principles and community. It established shared principles while leaving room for competing views about Esperanto’s purpose.
World Esperanto Association: The World Esperanto Association is an international organization connecting Esperanto speakers and promoting the language. Its international advocacy and institutional contacts offer channels for advancing language-policy goals.
