First Balkan War

The First Balkan War (1912–1913) was a conflict in which the Balkan League defeated the Ottoman Empire and captured most of its remaining European territories.

Balkan League: An alliance of Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Montenegro formed to fight the Ottoman Empire in 1912. Its coordinated assault made the war a coalition campaign rather than a series of isolated revolts.
Young Turk Revolution: The 1908 revolution that restored constitutional government in the Ottoman Empire and brought the Committee of Union and Progress to power. The revolution intensified Balkan states’ fears that Ottoman centralization would threaten their ambitions.
Treaty of Bucharest (1913): The treaty that ended the Second Balkan War and established new borders among the Balkan states. It fixed the partition that the First Balkan War’s allies had failed to agree upon.
Ottoman Empire: A multiethnic empire that ruled Anatolia, the Middle East, and parts of southeastern Europe until its dissolution after World War I. Its retreat from Europe was the central outcome the victorious Balkan states sought.

Albanian Revolt of 1912: An uprising against Ottoman rule that secured concessions for Albanian regions shortly before the Balkan League’s invasion. The revolt weakened Ottoman authority just as neighboring states prepared to attack.
