First Partition of Poland

The 1772 division of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth among Prussia, Russia, and Austria, which sharply reduced its territory and weakened its sovereignty.

Partition Treaty of 1772: The agreement signed by Russia, Prussia, and Austria formalizing their territorial acquisitions from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It converted the three powers’ seizures into an internationally recognized division.
Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth: A federated state of Poland and Lithuania that existed from 1569 until its final partition in 1795. The partition dismantled this state rather than dividing the modern Polish nation-state.
