Fisherman's knot

A bend that joins two ropes or lines by tying an overhand knot in each around the other line. The two knots are drawn together to form the finished join.

Overhand knot: A simple knot formed by passing a line’s end over and under its standing part. Each half of a fisherman's knot is an overhand knot tied around the opposite line.
Fishing line: A cord used to connect fishing tackle to a fishing rod or to other tackle. The knot is commonly used to join fishing lines, including lines of different diameters.
Blood knot: A fishing-line bend made by wrapping each line around the other and passing the ends through a central opening. It joins lines with opposing wraps rather than two overhand knots drawn together.
Standing part: The section of a rope that is not being used as its working end. Each overhand knot is tied around the standing part of the opposing line.
Double fisherman's knot: A bend made by tying two double overhand knots around the opposing lines. Its extra turns create a more secure, bulkier version of the same paired-knot mechanism.
Climbing knot: A knot used to secure, connect, or manage ropes in climbing. The fisherman's knot is used in some climbing contexts, especially to join cord ends into a loop.
Double uni knot: A line-to-line fishing knot made by tying a uni knot with each line around the other. It is a popular alternative whose paired knots are tied differently from overhands.
Working end: The free end of a rope used to tie a knot. The working ends form the two overhand knots and are trimmed or secured after dressing.
Fisherman's loop: A fixed loop formed by multiple turns of rope around a standing part. Despite its name, this creates a loop rather than joining two separate lines.
Prusik: A friction hitch that grips a rope when loaded and can slide when unloaded. A cord joined with a fisherman's knot can be made into a loop for a Prusik hitch.
