Fishing lure

An artificial bait designed to attract fish and induce them to strike through resemblance to prey or through movement, color, sound, or vibration.

Fishing hook: A metal device with a pointed barb used to catch fish by engaging their mouths. Hooks turn a strike on the lure into a chance to catch the fish.
Fish vision: The sensory system by which fish detect and interpret light and images underwater. Color, contrast, and flash matter only insofar as fish can see them in their environment.

Live bait fishing: A fishing method that uses living organisms, such as worms or minnows, as bait. Live bait supplies authentic movement and biological cues rather than engineered imitation.
Spinnerbait: A fishing lure with one or more rotating metal blades that produce flash and vibration. Its blades create the visual and vibrational signals central to many lure designs.
Acoustic ecology: The study of how sound-producing organisms and environments affect one another. Rattling lures add sound cues that may influence fish behavior.
