Flood pulse concept

The flood pulse concept explains how seasonal river floods connect channels with floodplains, driving exchanges of water, nutrients, organisms, and energy that shape ecosystem productivity.

Flood pulse: A recurring rise and fall in river level that inundates and then drains connected floodplain habitats. The concept centers on this seasonal expansion and contraction of river–floodplain connections.
