Florence Cathedral

Florence Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, is a Gothic church in Florence, Italy, crowned by Filippo Brunelleschi’s monumental dome.

Brunelleschi's Dome: The masonry dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi to span Florence Cathedral’s crossing without traditional wooden centering. Its dome defines the cathedral’s skyline and solved the building’s largest engineering challenge.
Herringbone brickwork: A masonry pattern in which bricks are laid diagonally among horizontal courses. Brunelleschi used this arrangement to help stabilize brickwork as the dome rose.
