Florence R. Sabin

Florence R. Sabin (1871–1953) was an American physician and anatomist whose research clarified lymphatic development and tuberculosis pathology and helped shape immunology and public health.

Johns Hopkins School of Medicine: A medical school founded in Baltimore in 1893 that helped establish research-based medical education in the United States. Sabin studied and later taught anatomy at this institution.
Lymphatic system: A network of vessels, tissues, and organs that returns fluid to the bloodstream and supports immune defense. Sabin investigated how this network develops in the embryo.
Tuberculosis: An infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, usually affecting the lungs but capable of involving other organs. Sabin investigated its pathology and later organized research aimed at controlling it.
