Flying shuttle

A loom mechanism that propels a shuttle carrying weft yarn through the shed, enabling faster weaving and wider cloth than hand-thrown shuttles.

Shuttle (weaving): A carrier that holds weft yarn and passes it between warp threads during weaving. The flying shuttle is a propelled form of this basic weft carrier.
John Kay: An English inventor associated with the flying shuttle, patented in 1733. Kay's patent established the mechanism that bears this name.
