Foreign correspondent

A foreign correspondent is a journalist based outside their home country who reports on events and conditions there for audiences elsewhere.

War correspondent: A journalist who reports from or near armed conflict. War reporting is one of the most demanding and consequential forms of foreign correspondence.
Source (journalism): A person, document, or institution that provides information used in journalism. Sources abroad help correspondents establish facts and understand local events.
Telegraphy: The transmission of messages over distance using coded electrical signals. The telegraph sharply reduced the time needed to send reports from abroad.
CNN effect: The proposed influence of real-time news coverage on foreign-policy decisions and public pressure. Graphic reporting from abroad can bring distant crises into domestic political debate.

Foreign desk: A newsroom section responsible for coverage of countries and international affairs. The foreign desk assigns, edits, and publishes much of a correspondent’s reporting.
Media accreditation: Official recognition that allows journalists access to designated events, institutions, or locations. Accreditation can determine whether a correspondent can report from restricted settings.
