A pleasant-smelling substance or blend used to scent products or environments. It may contain natural extracts, synthetic aroma chemicals, or both.

Perfume: A concentrated fragrance blend applied to the body or objects for its scent. Fine fragrance is one familiar form of fragrance, typically designed to develop on skin.

Cosmetics: Products applied to the body for cleansing, beautifying, protecting, or changing appearance. Fragrance is commonly added to cosmetics to shape their sensory character.
Fragrance-free: A product formulation made without ingredients added to impart or mask a scent. It offers an alternative for people avoiding scented products, though labeling practices vary.
Essential oil: A concentrated, volatile mixture extracted from aromatic plants. Essential oils provide natural aromatic materials used in some fragrance blends.
Volatility: A substance's tendency to enter the gas phase under given conditions. More volatile ingredients tend to reach the nose and fade sooner.
