Knowra Francesco Maria Piave Francesco Maria Piave Francesco Maria Piave (1810–1876) was an Italian poet and opera librettist, best known for collaborating with Giuseppe Verdi on several operas, including Rigoletto and La traviata.
Rigoletto : An opera by Giuseppe Verdi about a court jester, his daughter Gilda, and the Duke of Mantua. Piave wrote the libretto, adapting Victor Hugo’s play Le roi s’amuse.
Giuseppe Verdi : An Italian composer whose operas include Rigoletto, La traviata, Aida, and Otello. Verdi was Piave’s most consequential collaborator and repeatedly revised his librettos.
Opera libretto : The text written or adapted for an opera, including its words for singing and dramatic structure. Piave’s principal craft was fitting dramatic language to musical composition.
