Frank P. Ramsey

Frank Plumpton Ramsey (1903–1930) was a British mathematician, philosopher, and economist whose work shaped mathematical logic, subjective probability, and decision theory.

Ramsey sentence: A sentence that replaces theoretical terms in a theory with existentially quantified variables. Ramsey introduced this logical technique to distinguish a theory’s structure from its theoretical vocabulary.
Ramsey theory: A branch of combinatorics studying conditions that guarantee order within sufficiently large structures. His theorem on arithmetic progressions helped establish a mathematical field bearing his name.
