Franklin expedition

The 1845 British Arctic expedition led by John Franklin to find the Northwest Passage. Its two ships and all 129 crew members disappeared, prompting decades of search and investigation.

Northwest Passage: A sea route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Arctic Archipelago of northern Canada. Finding this passage was the expedition’s central objective.
Beechey Island: An island in the Canadian Arctic where the Franklin expedition spent its first winter in 1845–1846. Graves and camp remains there provide the earliest major evidence of the expedition’s fate.
