Fred Haise

Fred Haise is an American astronaut and test pilot who flew on Apollo 13 and commanded the Space Shuttle Enterprise approach and landing tests.

Apollo 13: The 1970 lunar mission whose crew returned safely after an oxygen tank failure crippled its service module. Haise served as lunar module pilot on the mission and helped operate Aquarius as a lifeboat.
Apollo 8: The 1968 mission that sent astronauts around the Moon for the first time. Haise served as backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 8, an early assignment in his Apollo career.
Apollo Lunar Module: The spacecraft designed to carry two astronauts between lunar orbit and the Moon’s surface. Haise operated this vehicle as Apollo 13’s lunar module pilot during the crew’s emergency.
United States Naval Reserve: A reserve component of the United States Navy whose members serve in part-time military roles. Haise served in the Naval Reserve before becoming a civilian test pilot and astronaut.
