Frederic Bartlett

Frederic Bartlett (1886–1969) was a British psychologist whose studies of remembering and perception helped establish schemas as frameworks that shape how people interpret and recall experience.

Schema (psychology): An organized framework of prior knowledge that guides the interpretation of information and supports memory. Bartlett made schemas central to explaining how past experience shapes what people remember.
Cognitive psychology: The scientific study of mental processes such as perception, memory, language, and reasoning. Bartlett’s emphasis on active mental organization anticipated the field’s later concerns.
