Frédéric Joliot-Curie

Frédéric Joliot-Curie (1900–1958) was a French physicist and chemist who discovered artificial radioactivity with Irène Joliot-Curie and later helped advance French nuclear research.

Marie Curie: A Polish-French physicist and chemist whose research established foundational methods for studying radioactivity. She recruited Joliot as a laboratory assistant at the Radium Institute, where he met Irène.
Artificial radioactivity: Radioactivity induced by transforming stable atomic nuclei through bombardment with particles. Joliot and Irène Joliot-Curie discovered this phenomenon in 1934.
École supérieure de physique et de chimie industrielles de la ville de Paris: A Parisian engineering school specializing in physics and industrial chemistry. Joliot studied there before Marie Curie recruited him to her laboratory.
French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission: A French public research body established in 1945 to develop atomic energy and nuclear science. Joliot became its first High Commissioner, directing France’s early civilian nuclear research.
