Frédéric Mistral

Frédéric Mistral (1830–1914) was a Provençal poet and lexicographer who helped revive Occitan literature. He received the 1904 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Occitan language: A Romance language historically spoken across southern France, parts of Italy, and Spain. Mistral wrote in Provençal, a variety of Occitan, and worked to strengthen its literary standing.
