French Algeria

French Algeria was the colonial regime established after France invaded Algeria in 1830 and ended with Algerian independence in 1962. It combined settler rule, unequal legal status, and French claims that Algeria was part of France.

French conquest of Algeria: France’s military campaign to seize Algeria, begun in 1830 and completed through decades of resistance and warfare. The invasion began the colonial regime and its continuing expansion inland.
