French East India Company

The French East India Company was a chartered trading company founded in 1664 to pursue French commerce and political influence in Asia. It operated trading posts and competed with European companies before its privileges and assets passed to the French state.

Jean-Baptiste Colbert: Jean-Baptiste Colbert was Louis XIV’s finance minister and a chief architect of French mercantilist policy. He organized the company in 1664 as part of a royal program to expand trade and state revenue.
