French Protectorate of Cambodia

The French Protectorate of Cambodia was the period from 1863 to 1953 when France controlled Cambodia’s foreign relations and increasingly administered its government, before independence.

Norodom of Cambodia: King of Cambodia from 1860 to 1904, whose reign began as French influence in the kingdom expanded. Norodom accepted the 1863 protectorate agreement that placed Cambodia under French protection.
