Knowra Frequency Frequency Frequency is the number of cycles of a repeating process completed per unit time. It is measured in hertz, where one hertz equals one cycle per second.
Period (physics) : The time required for one complete cycle of a repeating process. Frequency is the reciprocal of the period for a steady repeating process.
Hertz : The SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second. It gives the standard unit for reporting cycles completed per unit time.
Pitch (music) : The perceived highness or lowness of a musical sound, strongly associated with its fundamental frequency. For a periodic tone, higher fundamental frequency is generally heard as higher pitch.
Spatial frequency : The rate at which a pattern repeats across distance, commonly measured in cycles per unit length. Unlike ordinary frequency, it counts repetition across space rather than time.
Angular frequency : The rate of change of phase, measured in radians per unit time. It expresses the same repetition rate in angular units: angular frequency equals two pi times frequency.
Oscillation : A repeated variation of a quantity around an equilibrium value or between states. Frequency measures how often an oscillating system completes its cycle.
Electromagnetic spectrum : The full range of electromagnetic radiation, ordered by frequency or wavelength. Radio waves, visible light, and other radiation occupy distinct frequency ranges.
Relative frequency : The proportion of observations in a dataset belonging to a particular value or category. In statistics, frequency may count occurrences rather than cycles per unit time.
Phase (waves) : A quantity describing the position within a wave cycle, often expressed as an angle. Tracking phase over time reveals how quickly a periodic signal repeats.
Wavelength : The distance between corresponding points on successive cycles of a wave. Together with wave speed, wavelength determines a traveling wave's frequency.
