Fritz Haber

Fritz Haber (1868–1934) was a German chemist who developed a practical process for synthesizing ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen. He received the 1918 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this work.

Carl Bosch: A German chemist and engineer who developed industrial high-pressure methods for ammonia synthesis. Bosch scaled Haber’s laboratory chemistry into a large-scale industrial process.
Haber–Bosch process: An industrial process that synthesizes ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen over a catalyst at high pressure. It is the industrial form of the chemistry Haber first demonstrated.
Synthetic fertilizer: Manufactured nutrients added to soil to support plant growth. Ammonia from Haber’s process became a major source of fertilizer nitrogen.
