G-string

A minimal garment with a narrow strip of fabric covering the genitals and a thin cord or band running between the buttocks.

Thong: A style of underwear with a narrow rear section that leaves most of the buttocks exposed. The G-string is an especially minimal form of thong, with a narrow cord at the back.
Seamless underwear: Underwear made with few or no prominent seams to reduce visible lines beneath clothing. Both styles can reduce the outline of underwear beneath close-fitting clothes.
Rudi Gernreich: An Austrian-American fashion designer known for experimental clothing, including the topless swimsuit. Gernreich introduced the monokini, which helped shape debates around minimal swimwear.
Boyshorts: Close-fitting underwear with short legs that cover the hips and much of the buttocks. Boyshorts provide broad rear coverage rather than a narrow cord.
Loincloth: A simple garment worn around the waist and between the legs to cover the genitals. Like a loincloth, a G-string centers coverage on a small panel between the legs.
Swimwear: Clothing designed for swimming and other water-based activities. G-strings are also made as swimsuit bottoms.
Monokini: A swimsuit design introduced by Rudi Gernreich in 1964, originally consisting of a topless one-piece bottom. Its launch brought public attention to radically reduced swimwear coverage.
Briefs: Close-fitting underwear with a waistband and fabric panels covering the front and buttocks. Briefs cover far more of the buttocks than a G-string.
Underwear: Clothing worn next to the body beneath outer garments, usually for coverage, support, or hygiene. A G-string is a specialized form of underwear.
Stripper: A performer who dances erotically, often in venues where audiences may pay for private attention. Some stage costumes use G-strings to meet performance and venue requirements.
