Galba

Servius Sulpicius Galba was Roman emperor from 68 to 69 CE. He succeeded Nero and was overthrown and killed by Otho during the Year of the Four Emperors.

Nero: Nero was Roman emperor from 54 to 68 CE, whose rule ended in rebellion and suicide. His death left the imperial succession open and brought Galba to power.
Otho: Marcus Salvius Otho was Roman emperor for three months in 69 CE, after overthrowing Galba. His coup ended Galba’s reign and life.
Lucius Calpurnius Piso Licinianus: A Roman aristocrat whom Galba adopted as his heir shortly before both were killed in 69 CE. Galba’s choice of Piso alienated Otho, who had expected adoption.
Lex de imperio Vespasiani: A Roman law granting Vespasian powers associated with imperial office, preserved on a bronze inscription. It gave formal legal shape to the authority that Galba’s contested succession had exposed.
