Galina Ulanova

Galina Ulanova (1910–1998) was a Soviet ballet dancer celebrated for her expressive dramatic performances. She danced with the Mariinsky and Bolshoi ballet companies and became one of the most acclaimed ballerinas of the twentieth century.

Agrippina Vaganova: A Russian ballet teacher whose systematic training method shaped generations of classical dancers. Vaganova taught Ulanova at the Leningrad Choreographic School.
Juliet (Romeo and Juliet ballet): The heroine of Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet, a role demanding both technical control and dramatic transformation. Ulanova’s Juliet was especially acclaimed for its emotional intensity.

Giselle (ballet): A Romantic ballet about a young woman who dies of heartbreak and joins a supernatural sisterhood. Giselle was one of Ulanova’s defining dramatic roles.
Mariinsky Ballet: A St. Petersburg ballet company with roots in the Imperial Russian ballet tradition. Ulanova trained and began her professional career with this company.
Vaganova method: A ballet training system developed by Agrippina Vaganova, combining elements of French, Italian, and Russian technique. Ulanova’s training under Vaganova grounded her classical technique.
