Gambela Region

Gambela Region is a regional state in western Ethiopia, bordering South Sudan and centered on Gambela city. Its geography and population connect Ethiopia’s highlands with the Nile basin.

Gambela: Gambela is a city in western Ethiopia and the capital of Gambela Region. The regional capital is the main urban center and administrative seat.

Gambela massacre: The Gambela massacre was a 2003 attack in Gambela city in which members of the Anuak community were killed. The killings became a defining episode in modern regional politics and intercommunal relations.
South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region: South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region is a regional state in southwestern Ethiopia. It lies southeast of Gambela and shares parts of the region’s highland transition.
