Game (hunting)

Game is wild animals hunted for food or sport. The term can also describe the meat obtained from those animals.

Wildlife: Undomesticated animals and plants living in natural environments. Game consists of wild animals, though not all wildlife is hunted.
Bushmeat: Meat from wild animals hunted for food, especially in tropical regions. It is a major food use of hunted wildlife in parts of Africa and Asia.
Livestock: Domesticated animals raised for food, fiber, labor, or other products. Livestock are raised by people rather than taken as wild game.
Overhunting: The removal of animals through hunting faster than populations can sustain. Unregulated demand for game can drive population declines.
Hunting: The pursuit and capture or killing of wild animals. Hunting is the activity that makes an animal game.
Venison: Meat from deer, and sometimes other members of the deer family. It is a familiar example of meat produced from game.
Poaching: The illegal taking of wild animals or plants. Poaching can target game species but violates hunting regulations.
Sustainable hunting: Hunting managed so it does not impair the long-term persistence of populations. It describes the conservation standard sought in regulated game harvests.
Wildlife management: The management of wild animal populations and their habitats. It sets population goals that can shape which animals are hunted.
Waterfowl hunting: Hunting ducks, geese, and other water-associated birds. It is a specialized form of hunting birds classed as game.
